Edmonton home inspection is one of the most important aspects in the buying and selling process. You may think you have found your Edmonton dream home but only a home inspection will help reveal the true value of the property.
In today’s article, Team Leading Edge discusses the actions to take if and when an inspection yields negative results.
- FOUNDATION DETERIORATION
All aspects of the home will eventually deteriorate. One of the crucial parts you have to watch out for is the state of the foundation. Time is the enemy here, a 10 year-old home is prone to foundation cracks and shifting. If you’re on the selling side, ensure to immediately hire a contractor to restore or fix the damage. Don’t pass it on to another time; act fast as this is a major safety issue.
- BLACK MOLD CONTAMINATION
Bathrooms and basements are usually the main suspects when it comes to black mold contamination. These areas of your home provide the most suitable environment for molds to thrive. Untreated water damage is usually the cause.
Also note that it has been proven by doctors that mold is toxic to your respiratory system. Children with asthma could potentially suffer from mold sores.
To successfully remove the mold contamination, you must start by eliminating the source of moisture; fix any leaks. If you fail to this, expect to have the mold reappear.
According to HGTV.com, you have to: “…seal any doorways or other openings leading to other areas of the home, place heavy plastic over them, then seal the plastic in place with duct tape. If there are outdoor openings in the room, place an exhaust fan near them to help remove mold spores from the room.”
Do your best to prevent the mold from getting in contact with your skin. Wear protective gear such as a facemask and cover your extremities.
For detectable molds, utilize a sponge and soap to get rid of it. For efficiency, it is recommended that you use commercial black mold removal products.
- WATER RELATED DAMAGE
As we have mentioned above, this is one of the main causes for black mold contamination, so getting this fixed is like hitting two birds with one stone. Home inspectors are well trained to spot the source of the problem. Once the inspector provides with a report of the source, your best bet to finally end this dilemma is to hire a plumber or retain the services of your contractor. A D-I-Y method would not do the trick. Sorry.
We know you want to save money but when it comes to these matters, your D-I-Y methods will only be limited to some aspects. To properly have the home in top shape, hiring professionals to do the work is your best option.
