SIMPLE WAYS TO SAVE MONEY ON IMPORTANT THINGS YOU NEED FOR YOUR NEW EDMONTON HOME

edmonton homes for sale mls listings

Moment of truth! You finally closed on that dream Edmonton home and now you’re scheduled to move in a few weeks.  Hooray!

In view of this awesome news, Team Leading Edge pieced together a few simple tips on how you can save precious dollars on the important things that you’ll need for your new residence.

Let’s begin!

Homes For Sale Edmonton

HOARD SUPPLIES BEFORE THE ACTUAL MOVE-IN: If you still have time, it’s best to stockpile when you get good deals. For example, if your move in date is in 3-weeks time and there’s a sale or clearance at the Edmonton mall today, time for you to go crazy and buy the necessary items you need for the house at a cheaper price.

It’s financially beneficial for you to buy items on sale in the 3-week period vs. buying everything at once (for the regular price) on your move-in date.

If you buy everything on the move-in date, not only would it be stressful on your finances, it’ll also be physically and mentally exhausting for your family.

COUPONING: You’ve seen the TV show Extreme Couponing, now its your turn to be on the spotlight and finally savor on the benefits of this activity

Patience and dedication are 2 investments you need in order to succeed. You’re doing this to save money, right? So c’mon, just enjoy it!

By couponing, you can save precious dollars when purchasing paper products, cleaning supplies and stuff for the kitchen. Groupon is just one of the many websites where you can find lots of money-saving coupons!

CREDIT CARD REBATES, POINTS & REWARDS

Team Leading Edge founding member Serge Bourgoin is one heavy user of credit cards. He takes advantage of all the rebates and rewards his cards offer. You should too!

Going shopping this week? Double-check first the stores where you’re a rewards member. Try also to find out which joints provide points for your credit card use.

Rewards? An example is GoAuto.com with their “The Go Card”. An excerpt from their website:

“With the Go Card, you'll save on every service, part(s), and accessories bill, and you can earn big money for every friend you successfully refer to a Go Auto dealership.”

Another example is the RBC Royal Bank has the RBC Rewards Visa Gold.  Their rewards include the following:

1. Earn Points
Earn 1 RBC Rewards point for every two dollars in purchases you make with the card.

2. Redeem with Points
Redeem for travel rewards, merchandise, gift cards/certificates and RBC Financial Rewards® with rewards starting as low as 2,500 points!

3. Convert Points
Convert RBC Rewards points to Esso Extra, Shoppers Optimum points‡ or WestJet dollars.

See our point here? Perfect, eh?

This list wouldn’t be complete without…

DO-IT-YOURSELF ITEMS: You will save hundreds of dollars if you build some of your own furniture.
Can you hear that? IKEA is calling!

Vill Vo - Real Estate Calgary wrote: Great article Serge there are lots of easy ways to save money on supplies and furniture when moving into a new house. I might add to that check out all your options on Kijiji, there are many great or even free deals there on almost anything. Furniture, kitchen supplies, home decorations, carpets, BBQs ect. You can get many of your basic essentials there for peanuts.
Jeff - RE/MAX wrote: It's also a good idea to bargain with the previous home owner and see what items they are willing to leave behind. In many cases you can get furniture, appliances, beds, washers & dryers all dirt cheap. Even if the seller says they are taking it with them there is always room to negotiate.
